French delegation to Stockholm, Sweden

In January, a French delegation to Sweden was organised within the framework of the SHC programme, in collaboration with SweHeat and Cooling. The French energy company CCIAG Grenoble was invited to visit Stockholm, Uppsala and Solna and explore five thematics: Data management, AI for optimisation, Network maintenance and monitoring, Demand-side management, and C02 capture. SHC member companies presented solutions to address these topics and visits to Vattenfall, Norrenergi and Stockholm Exergi offered opportunities to discuss with Swedish energy operators.

The SHC team hope that the inspirational delegation programme and discussions will contribute to great collaborations throughout the year.

Business Sweden in Paris participated at the Strategic Seminar of SNCU, FEDENE

The French national association of urban heating and cooling, SNCU (grouped within the umbrella organisation FEDENE, a French professional association representing 500 energy and environmental service companies) organised a strategic seminar in Paris on the 25th of January. Business Sweden in Paris, and Euroheat & Power were here invited to share experiences in developing District Heating & Cooling (DHC) networks in Europe. The objective was to promote the common goal of developing more sustainable and efficient DHC markets through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, where the Swedish and Austrian journeys could provide inspirational experiences to serve as the basis for further dialogue.

SHC, represented by Business Sweden in Paris, presented an overview of the Swedish history of developing DHC and how Sweden has advanced since the 1970s due to political measures and close collaboration among stakeholders. The presentation emphasised governance models for district heating, the Swedish energy mix, transparency and openness with clients and subscribers, and future opportunities for DHC networks. Differences in comparison to the French market conditions of DHC were also highlighted. Euroheat & Power then presented examples from various European markets with a focus on Austria, which has come far in the development of the DH.

The SHC programme and Business Sweden in Paris would like to that SNCU, FEDENE, and its members for the invitation to participate in the inspiring seminar and looks forward to exploring future collaborations.

ADEME’s plans for the Heat Fund (Fonds chaleur) in France 2023

Through the Heat fund (Fonds chaleur), ADEME supports the development of investments in production and distribution networks of renewable heat. The ADEME Heat fund aims to support projects that produce heat from renewable energy sources and energy recovery as well as heat networks linked to these installations and, under certain conditions, the production of renewable cooling. Between 2009 and 2021, 2,89 billion euros have been committed to support nearly 6,566 investment operations.

The budget initially adopted for the Heat fund for 2022 was €370 million, a 6% increase from 2021. In March 2022, as part of the resilience plan to address the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the fund was increased by an additional €150 million to a total of €520 million. Despite this, the French government has stated that it is not sufficient to achieve their energy objectives. It would rather an increase in the Heat fund budget of €100 million per year for the next five years.

The objective for 2023 is to maintain the level of commitments of the heat fund at €520 million, equivalent to the year of 2022. ADEME also plans to launch actions regarding the implementation of a national geothermal roadmap that aims to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy.
