Expertise from Sweden in district heating and cooling

One of the most experienced and cited experts within district heating and cooling from Sweden is Sven Werner, Professor in Energy Technology at the University of Halmstad. He has recently published an open-access article in the Journal Energy, an international, multi-disciplinary journal in energy engineering and research. Even though district energy technologies are advanced and have been tried and tested in Sweden during many years, it is important to adapt these to British market in terms of implementation and operation.

Some of the main findings of the article reviewing Swedish district heating are:

  • High utilisation of district heating in Swedish buildings.
  • High compliance to European definition of efficient district heating.
  • Considerable reductions of fossil carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Strong national driving forces from high fossil fuel taxes.
  • Soft district heating regulation based on transparency.

On Wednesday April 12th, Heat Networks has invited other district energy gurus to speak at a seminar organised together with CIBSE CHP & DH group. The event is sold out, but if you have secured your spot at the event we look forward to hosting you for interesting discussions on the implementation of Swedish-style district energy systems in the UK.

Contact us at Heat Networks if you would like to know more about Swedish district energy or get in touch with subject matter experts.
